On Tuesday, September 26, the Saint Albans High School Band went to Charleston to perform their halftime show, Le Miserable, in competition at the 71st annual Majorette and Band Festival. There were eight high school bands from Kanawha County in attendance. Overall, the Saint Albans Band placed seventh. Saint Albans won five silver medals and one bronze medal.

George Washington High School was the festival grand champion. George Washington won five gold medals in multiple categories and one silver medal. The first runner-up was Capitol high. Capitol won seven silver medals overall.  The second runner-up was Nitro. They also won seven silver medals.

The winner of Miss Kanawha Majorette was Lauren Camell, from Capital High. The Miss Kanawha Majorette receives a $2,500 college scholarship. This is a scholarship that honors the memory of JoAnn Jarrett Holland, who won Miss Kanawha Majorette in 1949.

Congratulations to all of the bands and majorettes who participated. We hope to have just as much fun next year.
